Momentum’s SunLED (‘coolest Dutch startup at CES Las Vegas’) signs deals with leading semiconductor suppliers

After scientific validation of positive health effects of its patented technologies, Amsterdam based SunLED signs deals with leading semiconductor suppliers Ams Osram, Lumileds and Luminus, making it the ‘coolest Dutch start-up’ at last week’s CES Las Vegas. SunLED is a Momentum portfolio company.

All indoor lighting misses the essential part of sunlight: Near-infrared light

50% of outdoor light consists of near-infrared light. This invisible part of the solar spectrum is healthy for us. However, people spend 90% of their waking hours indoors* (1) deprived of near-infrared light as even our window glazing blocks it* (2). This is where SunLED can make a difference: SunLED brings healthy near-infrared light indoors, with real scientific proven results.

Proven by scientific research

SunLED can improve your physical health, enhance mental well-being, and boost your immune system, based on the positive photobiomodulation effects of SunLED’s near infrared technology. Benefits have been scientifically proven with evidence, such as lower resting heart rate, less drowsiness, higher energy and lower internal inflammation for better immune system* (3).

SunLED technology can now be enabled by qualified suppliers

SunLED technology is ready to be integrated with computer & laptop screens, car interiors, general lighting, and is available as a USB-C-powered device (SunBooster). SunLED’s Qualified Supplier Program provides effective solutions for manufacturers and brands that are looking for high quality components and solutions.

SunLED Qualified Supplier Program

The SunLED ecosystem includes a Qualified Supplier Program developed to ensure that licensees have access to top-tier components from suppliers that are fully trained on SunLED and maintain supplier performance criteria. These Qualified Components Manufacturers (QCMs) are established global entities that have a proven track record in manufacturing and selling near-infrared emitting components suitable for implementing SunLED. Working together with these QCMs ensures that you work with the highest quality components and technological support for rapid product development. SunLED promotes QCMs by offering a royalty discount to licensees for products that use their components.

About SunLED
How did it start?

SunLED began with a shared passion for innovation and impact. Dr. Anne Berends, a nanomaterials scientist with a PhD from Utrecht University, spent over five years researching healthy near-infrared light. Her goal was clear: to turn science into a solution that improves health and well-being of people who spend the majority of their time indoors. To bring this vision to market, she partnered with Ayhan Siriner, a leader with 24 years of global experience in the lighting industry. Together with the SunLED team Ayhan and Anne introduce SunLED to people all over the world.

SunLED Life Science, headquartered in Amsterdam, researches and develops lighting solutions that bring the health benefits of sunlight indoors. Our patented and scientifically proven near-infrared technology, integrated into various devices like screens and luminaires, promotes health and well-being. We envision a world where everyone can access the benefits of natural sunlight indoors.

Our origin

SunLED Life Science develops meaningful lighting innovations to bring the healthy aspects of sunlight indoors. Headquartered in Amsterdam, we are a team of scientists, designers, and business experts, who aim to provide people all over the world with our near-infrared technologies. SunLED Life Science was created to bring the idea that indoor light can improve peoples’ lives.

Bringing the sun inside

Looking at the modern lifestyle we realize that people miss out on the very driver of life on earth – sunlight. Spending time in the office or at home: working, studying, enjoying your free time looking at the screen, we can barely get the amount of sunlight our body needs after centuries humanity spent under the sun. Therefore, we created SunLED – our flagship project. SunLED technology utilizes the power of near-infrared light, the vital part of sunlight, to make people healthier and happier. SunLED can be easily integrated into a vast variety of devices, such as screens, luminaires, car dashboards and many more. We carefully design our technology basing every decision on only the scientifically proven benefits of near-infrared light and take the principles of science seriously.

Our vision

SunLED Life Science envisions a world where everyone has access to the health benefits of natural sunlight, no matter where they are. We aim to revolutionize indoor health, making every space a healthier place to be. We strive to make our solutions accessible, energy-efficient and life-improving to align with the long-term sustainability and well-being goals of humanity.

Who we are

We are an international team of enthusiastic professionals who came together with the ambitious idea of revolutionary technology. We all have different backgrounds in science, design, marketing and business development. But to be a pioneer it takes a lot of courage, creativity and teamwork. That is what we have in common. That is who we are.

Product overview

Our product, based on the patented SunLED technology, is a groundbreaking, affordable solution that counteracts the negative health effects of insufficient natural light exposure. Our product delivers a scientifically proven dose of Near-Infrared (NIR) light over several hours, utilizing three powerful near-infrared LEDs at its core. It can be clipped onto any external monitor or laptop screen, seamlessly integrating into the user’s workspace.
