Investment of more than €5 million in Dutch deep-tech venture focused on near-infrared technology
AMSTERDAM, 28 October 2026 – Momentum Global Ventures has increased its majority stake in SunLED Life Science, the Dutch deep-tech company that brings the benefits of natural sunlight back into modern indoor life, with clinically demonstrated effects on mood, energy and heart health.
A larger position as commercial roll-out begins
Through Momentum Technology Ventures, the group has agreed to acquire a further stake of more than 10 percent for a consideration in excess of €5 million. Further terms of the transaction will not be disclosed. Momentum holds its majority stake in SunLED Life Science through Momentum Technology Fund I, of which Momentum Technology Ventures is the majority investor. The additional investment increases the group’s exposure as SunLED moves from proven technology to international scale.
That transition is under way. The SunBooster, one of the first SunLED-powered products, was named a Special Mention in TIME’s Best Inventions of 2025 and received an iF Design Award in 2026. It is currently being sold in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany and the Netherlands. In January, SunLED will present two new products, for monitors and wearables, at CES in Las Vegas.
“Near-infrared deficiency is one of the most overlooked health issues of modern indoor life, and SunLED has shown it can be solved at scale. It turns a basic biological need into a component that manufacturers can build into the products people already use every day. With the SunBooster on the market and interest from consumer electronics and automotive manufacturers growing, now is the right moment to increase our position.”

Sunlight as a component
People spend most of their lives indoors, under artificial light that lacks the near-infrared part of natural sunlight. SunLED’s technology is built on years of photobiomodulation research. It delivers a precise dose of near-infrared light from a single 3mm LED, small enough to be integrated into screens, car interiors and wearables. Users benefit by using their everyday devices, with no change in routine.
The health benefits are backed by clinical research. Double-blind, placebo-controlled studies, including work with the University of Groningen, have shown improved mood and energy, reduced daytime drowsiness, a lower resting heart rate and lower inflammatory markers after regular exposure. The evidence base continues to grow. Through ongoing collaborations with universities and research teams, SunLED is investigating further effects, including on immune function and eye health, and will publish new findings as they are validated.
The technology is protected by a world-leading patent portfolio. SunLED works with manufacturers from automotive to consumer electronics to build it into their products.
“Momentum has backed this project from the very beginning, for eight years now, and has also supported SunLED as an independent venture in recent years. Their investment comes at the right moment: with our first product on the market and manufacturers lining up to integrate our technology, it gives us the room to realise our growth ambitions and bring the health benefits of sunlight to millions of people indoors.”
