Momentum Leisure, the Dutch developer and operator of theme parks in Central Europe and part of the Momentum Global Ventures portfolio, has begun construction of its fourth theme park in Poland. The park is being built in Gliwice, in the south of the country, and is expected to open in July 2027.
With parks in all corners of Poland, Momentum Leisure will soon operate a nationally spread network of family attractions, serving not only every Polish region but also visitors from neighbouring countries within easy reach of a park.
In an interview with Polish trade publication Propertynews.pl, CEO Wouter Dekkers discusses the progress and ambitions of the project. Three months after the first pile was driven, the groundworks and underground infrastructure have been completed and the main hall, the heart of the complex, is now under construction.
Two Roller Coasters
The park will be themed around internationally recognised television characters from Nickelodeon, including SpongeBob SquarePants, PAW Patrol and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, as well as the Smurfs. The creative concept is being developed in collaboration with Leisure Expert Group from Amsterdam. It is also the first park to be developed entirely in-house by the Momentum Leisure team. Dekkers: “This will be a completely new concept. We are still targeting families, but with a shift towards an older age group.” In line with that ambition, the park will feature two roller coasters from German manufacturers Zierer and Gerstlauer, one of which will run partially outdoors, a first for Momentum Leisure’s Polish parks.
Leisure and Retail Combined
The total investment exceeds 50 million euros. At opening, approximately 200 people will be employed at the park. The park is being built on a 67,000 m² site acquired from real estate investor Mitiska REIM, owner of the adjacent Europa Centralna retail park. The combination of a theme park and a major shopping destination on a single site creates a cross-pollination effect that is expected to drive additional footfall for both parties. The location provides access to a market of more than 40 million residents across Poland, Germany and the Czech Republic.
CEO Wouter Dekkers: “Poland remains a very important market for us, but our ambitions reach further. We have already acquired land 20 minutes from Bucharest, marking the beginning of our expansion into Romania.”
