Amsterdam / Delfzijl, 21 May 2026 – EemsGas – which, with an investment of over €100 million, is set to become one of the largest production facilities for biomethane (green gas) in the Netherlands – has received an SDE++ subsidy decision from the Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland (RVO). This provides an operating subsidy with a maximum value of €149.8 million. The subsidy provides EemsGas with guaranteed operating income over the next fifteen years. EemsGas is a 50/50 joint venture in which sustainable renewable biocommodities producer Perpetual Next and Gasunie have been collaborating since 2022 to produce large volumes of biomethane from demolition wood.
At the end of last year, EemsGas was already awarded a DEI+ investment subsidy of €30 million. This is earmarked for the construction of a green gas plant at the Chemiepark in Delfzijl. The SDE++ subsidy now awarded supports the production phase: it covers a minimum price for biomethane and thereby provides long-term certainty over operating income.
For the development of the plant, EemsGas partnered with TNO, the provider of the gasification technology. Equipped with leading-edge technology, the plant will produce 18 million cubic metres of green gas per year, far exceeding the output of conventional green gas production facilities.

The maximum subsidy amount of €149.8 million applies over a production period of fifteen years, from 1 July 2029 to and including 30 June 2044. The actual annual payment will vary in line with the market price for gas and serves as a price floor guaranteeing a minimum level of income over the full term.
In the period ahead, the plans for EemsGas will be finalised, so that construction of EemsGas can commence in 2027, with the facility due to become operational in 2029.
